to dye or not to dye...

Contrary to popular belief, I’m not the stay up late-throwing back shots rocker that folks paint me to be. I have to keep in mind that from Raleigh I’m an adventurous 30 minute deer darting drive from nighty night. With this in mind I’ve learned to behave accordingly and do the usual 2 or 3 Guinness max hang with the usual suspects. Knowing that, I ended up at Slim’s after our rockin’ ass show down at the Pour House with Chip Robinson’s Heavy beat Outfit (which by the way, got decided last night will join me for my birthday show on Christmas night). At Slim’s I ordered up a cold glass from Jimbo and immediately noticed that I was surrounded by 2 dark haired beauties. “That was a great show” the one on the stool said with her dark brown eyes staring through me. A curly haired brunette had me flanked on the right. She was equally impressed by the heavy beats being laid down earlier. We discussed where they were from, what they did blah, blah, blah. As the topic sometimes goes, it began to center around my hair. I haven’t dyed it or cut it lately so in my opinion it’s pretty much a total mess. Not so their eyes. The one sitting, from Charlotte visiting the other, had just graduated beauty school and she frowned when I said that I hadn’t had time to dye it and that I would probably do so tomorrow. The standing girl chimed in and from that moment on wouldn’t let up. “Well my husband is a drummer and he plays like Keith Moon…but uhhh..what was I saying? OH! The point is DON”T dye your hair” Jeez! “You look forty” the sitter said. Hell, I’ll take that. “Why would you go against what 2 beautiful girls were telling you to do?” Well, she had a point. “Your youth and spirit come through your eyes and I’m a good judge of people and I can tell that you have a very young heart…so don’t dye your hair”. Insistent and PERsistant, I was starting to believe them and to fall for their hard sell (cuz you know, Nick Lowe don’t look too bad…OLD, but in a distinguished sort of way) until the standing girl, a masseuse from Garner, NC said “You could look like Kenny Rogers! I LOVE that man!” That did it for me. I threw my hands up and walked off. So, if you see me at my show tonight down at The Pour House (we begin at 8, btw) I’ll be sporting the Natural Instincts color, Tweed. Like the song says, “I’m gonna wash that grey right outta my hair!”….

I was beginning to look like Kenny Rogers, so I colored mine yesterday - Natural Insticts Hazelnut, like we yelled about over The Loners last night. See ya tonight.....my youthful shiny eyes will be looking for yours.

Hell - just stay nat'ral. A touch of grey is a badge of honor, man! As Shaver sang, "You're as young as the woman you feel..."

By the way, hate I missed the throwdowns this weekend - I'll make sure to be at the next ones!
